Since 1984, the Swiss Rudolf Bindella (distributor in his country of Italian wines, indeed one of the first to believe in the potential of Italian wine-making, and owner of a 40-room restaurant chain) has been offering wines with a strong personality. A style that has not been subjected to fashionable trends or appealed to false traditions, keeping its focus consistently on Sangiovese and appellation production. Currently, the winery - based near Acquaviva in the Vallocaia Estate - has 54 hectares of vineyards for a total production of 190,000 bottles, and represents the reality that has made perhaps the most significant steps in the recent past, towards the creation of a convincing Sangiovese di Montepulciano; worked with the means of modernity, but which do not overlap its austere, earthy and savoury character, given by the territory of origin. Among the labels dedicated to Montepulciano, the Riserva is Vallocaia, which comes from vines that have reached and exceeded 20 years of age, and which is aged two years in tonneau and one in the bottle. The 2016 vintage yields an inviting red, with no excesses in the notes of sweet red fruit and fleshy red flowers of iodine, blood orange and helichrysum. On the other hand, the palate shows a more decisive character, adhering with conviction to the mouth, leaving mineral and citrus flavours and a balsamic return to finish.
